Alterra: late-spring theater for all levels

theatrandu 2011.05.01. 22:50

You might feel excluded from stage events in Szeged but this is not necessarily the case. Have you ever rambled around in Szeged's former Jewish district? Next to the "new" synagogue there is an "old" one. About 20 years ago the once sacral space has been turned into Szeged's biggest alternative theater (free theater, 'off off-Broadway', underground thater - call it however you like). The Maszk-staff has announced its new spring program, which does not lack linguistic consideration either. ;)

Level zero or beginners of Hungarian

STiX 66
“My name is Stix Sixty-six. It's only a name, nothing more.It means: nothing. Fools' storm becomes necrotic on my leg, I am me, Nothing.I'm just walking staring. Sometimes I look at you and wave to you. There is nothing, no word, no story, just simple existence. I take off my no kind of clothes, I'm naked, I am nothing and nobody. My name is Stix Sixty-six.”

Ferenc Fehér is a self-taught dancer, an instinctive talent. His moves root in electric boogie and street hip-hop but he has picked up whatever he could from the people he worked with or was inspired by, which lead to his now unique style.

Stix66. MAY 13, Fri. 19:30.

5kettőnek
Don’t let the misleading title deceive you, the choreography by Dénes Döbrei and Henrietta Varga will not leave you speechless –at least in the sense that it does not contain shocking lengthy dialogues. The dancers interpret the story of János Pilinszky (a postwar Hungarian poet) and an actress. In 1973 Pilinszky fell sick in Paris and was attended by his friend’s fiancé...

5kettőnek. MAY 19, Thu. 19:30.

Credo

This piece was also inspired by the poet János Pilinszky. Éva Duda is one of the leading choreographers in the contemporary Hungarian dance scene, who founded her own ensemble last year. In this duet she dances with Gábor Bora, Dancer of the Year in 2010.

Credo. MAY 21, Sat. 19:30.

A concert for the pre-intermediate (fake beginners included)

Specko Jedno (with Bori Rutkai)

Although music does not need words to be enjoyable, it’s worth to pay attention to the often ironic and sometimes melancholic lyrics of Specko Jedno. Bori Rutkai is a multi-talented performer, most well-known as a singer. A fusion of tango, funky and rock…but listen for yourself:

Rutkai Bori és a Specko Jedno. MAY 4, Wed. 19:30.

Dear intermediate speakers of Hungarian

here is my suggestion for you!

2-es Bas

Rivalry girls, average situation. What??! Competing dancers? The particular performance of Virág Arany and Júlia Hadi is topped by the racing comments of Balázs Latorczai. Impro and tension in the air. Smells good!

2-es Bas. JUN 2, Thu. 19:30. (two-in-one soireé)

Upper-Intermediate

In’N’Out

Modern dance? Stand-up comedy? Both? Contemporary dance show with stand-up comedy. A show. Business. Show-business. A moving talkie. Interactive entertainment.
Quality or quantity? Why not all-in-one?

A performance with elegant humor (light irony and prickly self-irony) by the Zadam Company. Ladies and gentlemen, Ádám Zambrzycki and Dániel Szász on stage.

In'N'Out. JUN 2, Thu. 19:30. (two-in-one soireé)

Ouch, Advanced

I mean those expats who have been living in Hungary for ages. You probably already know about the programs of the Maszk association and follow their website. Am I right? So the rest is there just for you! :)

MAY 15-16. Urbán András Társulata (from Szabadka/Subotica) presents Béres Márta One-Girl-Show.

MAY 25. Παραstudio presents Fabula Matris – Story of the Mother.

Native-like tip:
MAY 28.  József Attila: Szabad-ötletek jegyzéke két ülésben, presented by Tamás Jordán.
