Make every day children’s day! – says it. The puppet theater of Szeged and Subotica tried to make this wish come true – at least for a week. During the II. Festival of Children’s Theater in May puppets Serbia, Romania, Russia, Armenia, Germany, and such remote countries as Peru and Brazil invaded the city. Free of charge, all the children were welcome to the 10 different shows. One day they even got the chance present themselves as actors.
The locals represented themselves with 3 performances, one of them a special adult piece. The
Kövér Béla Bábszínház seeks to strengthen the not yet popular genre of adult puppeteering, as we will see through the masterpiece of Livietta e Tracollo during the next season.
Box of stories
The
Opera Na Mala group from Sao Paolo brought a wide variety of traditional stories from all over the world to street stage. The interpreter proved to be unnecessary, (besides their freshly discovered skills in Hungarian) they showed that words don’t matter. The colourful puppets, rich techniques and jolly songs made the kids forget even about the burning sun - Babayaga and Don Quijote came to live in the middle of Árpád tér.
Who am I?
Who am I? - asks the little creature of
“Das kleine ich bin ich” (~The Little Me Is Me) brought by the Berliner
Das Weite Theater. The shadow adaptation of the German children’s book was simply maaagical.
The wisdom of the marionettes
Following the philosophical line of the festival, I am very sorry to have missed the Yerevan show. Child or grown-up - all of us pursuit happiness and we look for the aim of life – and often we don’t realize that it’s closer than we may think.
Closer….maybe even as close as Szeged. The festival finished with the performance of the local bábszínház. Don’t be lazy, go and see their Languid Tale (Rest Mese)! Itt a vége, fuss el véle!
